2006 MailScott Family: Free Blacks in HarrisburgFrom John Weldon Scott, October 1, 2006 In response to Harrisburg Underground Railroad Chronology Great listing of events on the site about the URR. I have traced our family to 1810 in Londonderry Township, which at that time could be a part of Harrisburg (i.e. the Harrisburg UGRR network--editor). Isaac and Sarah Scott are in the 1810 census. Later, of course, the children moved into the city. George Scott, my great grandfather, with his wife Rebecca Furguson and his son John P. Scott, George and Martha, lived at 605 South Street in the 8th ward. I am presently active in writing my autobiography which will include the whole genealogy of the Scotts. Again thanks for all of your great work. Keep on Keepin' on. Editor's note: John Weldon Scott is the author of African American Notables of Harrisburg, PA Game Book (2006) and, with Eric Ledell Smith, African Americans of Harrisburg (2005). The latter book has numerous photographs of the Scott Family, one of Harrisburg's oldest African American families. |
