Notice is hereby given to the owner of said negro, if he does not apply in three months from the second Tuesday in July next, he will be sold for his fees.

     It appears that Joe escaped from the jail shortly after his confinement, as Sheriff Perry placed the following advertisement:

     RAN-away from Greensburgh, the 20th of June, a negro Man, about 45 years of age, lost some of his foree teeth, It is thought he will either go to the Indians or down the river. Whoever secures said negro, and brings him to Greensburgh goal, shall have Twenty Shillings reward, and reasonable charges.

     July 2, 1788.

     Some months later Joe was apparently recaptured and returned to the Greensburgh jail.

     WAS committed to Greensburgh jail in December last, a Negro Man, about 45 years of age, tall and slim made, has lost some of his fore teeth; he has been advertised several times, but no owner has appeared. This is to give notice, that unless his master comes and pays the fees, he will be sold on the second Thursday in January next.
