Judge Walker successfully petitioned the court for a two year extension of the time of servitude for Hannah as a consequence of having given birth to Clara. To the honable Judge of the court of Quarter Sessions--The Petition of the undersigned himself sheweth that some time in the year 1812 your petitioner purchased a negress wench in Huntingdon County of John Blair of the name of Hannah who was duly recorded as a servant to the age of 28 & paid the full price of $72 for the said wench to the said John Blair as trustee for Wm Galbraith. That the time of service of the said servant has not yet expired. That on or about the 21st day of August last the said Hannah being a single unmarried woman had a bastard female child which is still alive. Your petitioner therefore prays that an order may be made by your Honble court upon the said Hannah to appear forthwith in Court to show cause if any she hath why her time of Servitude should not be enlarged after the expiration of her time of Servitude aforesaid. Not exceeding two years nor less than one according to the provisions of the 7th Section of an Act of the Genl assembly aforesaid of the 1st March 1780 printed in [word unreadable] Titles Fornication & Negroes, as a compensation to your Petitioner for the loss & damages he has sustained by [word unreadable] the said wench having born a bastard child in manner aforesaid in the time of her servitude aforesaid & your Petitioner as is duty bound will ever pray.

Bedford County[.] Jonathan Walker Esqr being duly sworn according to law doth depose and say that he served the within copy of a rule of this Court on the within named Hanna, this day by reading the same to her--and further saith that he offered to furnish her with money to employ counsel--to which the said Hannah answered that she believed she would not come into Court that it was unnecessary. Sworn and subscribed in open Court Nov. 1817.
November 6th 1817 on hearing the Court order & direct that the said Negress Hannah serve her said master the term of two years, in addition to her time."

Notes: Previously owned by William Allison of Greencastle, from whom Tom escaped multiple times. Tom escaped from Bedford Furnace on June 8, 1794. Cromwell placed the following ad in local newspapers to recover him:
Twenty Dollars Reward.
RAN-AWAY from the Bedford Furnace on the night of Sunday the 8th instant, a Negro Man named TOM, he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, and well made, has a sour countenance, and a down look, he had on & took with him when he went away a sailors jacket of grey coating, one under vest of striped silk and cotton, a pair of cotton stockings, two new shirts of country linen, one pair of tow linen trousers, a felt hat about half worn, old shoes half soaled, but he may have other cloaths with him of which no doubt he will change.
He was purchased by the subscriber in April last from Mr. William Allison, near Greencastle, but will most likely direct his course towards Philadelphia or Baltimore, and endeavor to pass for a feeman. Any person apprehending said fellow and securing him in any jail, if within 50 miles shall be entitled to the above reward, and in proportion to any greater or lesser distance, and reasonable expences if brought home.

Notes: Registerd in 1795 in Lancaster County by Col. Alexander Lowry. Registration notes "son of negro Jane," a female slave. Ownership of Andrew was transferred to Alexander Lowry, of Frankstown, Huntingdon County, sometime before 1819. He ran away from his new owner on Christmas Day, 1818. Alexander Lowry, of Frankstown ran the following ad to reclaim Andrew:

RAN away from the subscriber, living in Frankstown township, Huntingdon conty, Pa. on Saturday the 25th of December last, a Mulatto man named
ANDREW.
He is either 23 or 24 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, clumsy made, his nose very much scarred and broken in by a kick of a horse when young. Had on when he went away, a pair of black thick cloth pantaloons and a coat nearly the same colour, a tow shirt and a wool hat half worn. He is very fond of spiritous liquors, was born in Lancaster county, near Maytown, his former master was Col. Alexander Lowry, deceased, who lived between Maytown and Anderson's Ferry, his mother also belonged to Col. Lowry--she may be still living and probably he has gone in that neighborhood in search of her, or to Lampeter township, in the neighborhood of Messars. Denlinger and Brua. He is recorded in the Lancaster Recording Office. The above reward and all reasonable charges will be paid to any person or persons for apprehending him and confining him in the Jail of the county where he may be taken. Information for the subscriber will be thankfully received.
