NEW PUBLICATION: FREE! GREAT ESCAPES ON THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

Writer Lorene Cary, author of the novel, The Price of a Child, based on the rescue of Jane Wheeler/Johnson in Philadelphia has now written a book for young people based on accounts in William Still's The Underground Rail Road (1872) The book retells twelve stories of escapes, including both relatively well known accounts, such as the story of William and Ellen Craft and a selection of stories that will be new to those who have not read Still in the original.

[Minor note: The "Professor H." in the story of the escape of Maria Weems from Washington has been identified as Ellwood Harvey, a professor at the Female Medical College in Philadelphia, thanks largely to the research of a descendant, Steven Harvey.]

FOLLOW THE DRINKING GOURD INFORMATION REQUEST
[From Joel Bresler:]

For ongoing research into a cultural history of "Follow the Drinking Gourd", I am researching the ancestors of the gentleman who originally uncovered and published the song, Harris Braley (H.B.) Parks. Family lore has it that both sides of the family were active in the UGRR. If any list'ers have seen reference to UGRR involvement by individuals with the following family names, I'd be grateful: Parks (most likely living in Illinois from the 1830s onward.  I am aware of Lawson A. Parks) Braley (Brailey, Brealy, etc. Most likely living in Massachusetts, or also in Illinois in the same time-frame.)  Cowdrey (Cowdry, Cawdry, Cawdrey, etc.  I am aware of Dr. Harris Cowdrey, of Acton, MA.)  None of these names are listed in the Siebert operative lists, from what I could tell. Are there other rosters of names that I should check?
