The advertisements on this page offer enslaved persons for sale, but instruct potential purchasers to contact the seller through a third party, typically the newspaper printer. This preserved the anonymity of the enslaver.
Anonymous Advertisements
- Private Contract. TO be sold, two stout healthy Negroe Men and a Wench; one is a young lad, about 21 years old; the other two not exceeding 32 years each: They were brought up to farming, and are allowed to be very skillful and active in that line. The Proprietor induced with a desire to decline farming, wishes to dispose of them, and will give one or two years credit, if required. Further particulars may be known by applying to the Printers hereof.
N.B. The Wench understands sewing, spinning, and every kind of house work, as well as out work.
