    Details
    Formerly enslaved man , according to his obituary:
    WILLIAM FERRIS, FORMER SLAVE DIES
    William Ferris, colored, 85 years old, died Thursday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Belle Worthington at Dunbar. He was the last colored man residing about Dunbar who had been a slave in his younger days. He was a slave for 31 years. Funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. M. F. Simms of Connellsville officiating.
    William Farris is found in the 1870 Census of Washington Township, Fayette County. He is listed as a 30 year old Black male, born in Pennsylvania. That makes his year of birth about 1839 or 1840, which is within five years of the approximate year of birth (1834) indicated in his obituary.     Details Formerly enslaved man, according to his obituary
    SEWARD HAINES
    Seward Haines, of Smock, admitted to the Uniontown Hospital on Monday night, November 7, died in the institution Saturday night, November 26, 1932, at 10:15 o'clock of a complication of diseases, following an operation, Haines, a slave during the Civil War days, is believed to have been between 88 and 90 years of age. His body will be sent to relatives now residing in Virginia.
