2006 MailJohn Harvey, 6th USCTFrom William Radell, April 25, 2006 My name is Will Radell and I am a member of the John T. Crawford Camp 43, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, based in Kittanning, PA. I do believe you are missing a soldier from the 6th USCT who is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Indiana County, in Indiana, PA. Last July, we had a grave rededication, with full honors, of four Union Soldiers: Thomas Sylvanus (aka Ching Lee) who is one of the few known Chinese men to have received a pension from his service in the Civil War; Frank Donahugh (I can't recall his unit number); William Woolweaver of the 67th PA, and John Harvey of the 6th USCT. Mr. Harvey's descendents were present to receive the flag in his memory. PA Department Commander, SUVCW, Eric Schminke, was the keynote speaker at the grave rededication. All received new, granite headstones (except for William Woolweaver because his headstone was not in bad enough shape that the Federal Government would replace it. Please add John Harvey to your webpage of USCT Burials in Pennsylvania.
If you need a reference for Mr. Harvey's proof of service, please let me
know and I will contact the Camp's Grave Registration Officer, Richard
Essenwein, with that information. (Editor's Note: John Harvey has been added to the list of 6th USCT troops. Thank you, Mr. Radell.) |
